MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy about the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan who is thrown into despair due to the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her dead best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her group counselor VA (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the frivolity of an unexpected lover, Merita’s cozy, dysfunctional friendship with Zoe isolates the duo from the world… until Merit’s estranged grandfather (Ed Harris), holed up in the family’s lake house, loses his bearings and needs the one thing he’s unwilling to give up: help. At its core, it’s a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a torn family, and the complex ways we process grief.
