In the crumbling Soviet Union, the Petrosian family feels marginalized wherever they go. Their Armenian heritage causes them to face discrimination, first in their native Azerbaijan and then in Russia. After finding eternal hope in a church founded by American missionaries, the hostility of everyday life forces them to seek refuge in the United States. In the shadow of exile, hope becomes his home.
