The only location that wasn’t available was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador
Chronology
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands a high-profile job she’s ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers persuade both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-world locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed on any film or screen production, especially an American one.
The characters are phenomenally written, and all are, to some extent, enigmas
Although it’s accurately described as occupying the largest plot of residential land (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes. ). Their dialogue is fast-paced and engaging, and the plot keeps moving in chaotic political directions.
It felt similar to Night Agent, but much better
It doesn’t have a strong tone like other shows like it. I want to compare it to House of Cards slightly, but that doesn’t quite fit the bill. There’s a hint of continuity, but again, it’s not a real fit.
She’s good at her job, so no one bothers with her propriety
I see reviews complaining about the lead and her disheveled appearance and abrasive demeanor, but that’s her hole! “You want people in power who don’t *want* to be in power.” Kate is focused on the mission and the cause, where people’s lives hang in the balance. What she wears, how she looks, and even when she sleeps are all secondary to the main mission.
Really hope we see s2
I thought her style fit the narrative perfectly, and it was a refreshing change of pace. The best part of the show is the relationships everyone has with each other. It’s rare that I like all the characters in a show, but this one did it for me.
